FAQs at Ryna's Nail Salons

    • Both Clear Acrylic and Bio Gel are nail enhancement bases that can strengthen the growth and lengthen your nails (short, medium, long, extra long). These bases can be applied onto your natural nails (aka overlay) or on nail extensions tips that are carefully placed onto your nail beds.

    • Clear Acrylic is the stronger and thicker nail enhancement base compared to Bio Gel. It is typically done by mixing a powder (polymer) and a liquid (monomer) to create that dough-like consistency that can then be filed and carefully molded onto your natural nails / nails extensions. PRO: Great for those who are hard on their nails, use their hands for work quite a bit, or want to go for medium to extra long lengths nails.

    • Bio Gel is the thinner, odorless, and flexible base compared to Clear Acrylic. This is a ready-mixed product of monomer and polymer which is carefully placed on your natural nails / nail extensions and cured under a lamp that emits UV light. PRO: Bio Gel can easily be applied over your natural nail for a thin natural looking nail. It is also flexible and lightweight.

No matter which type of nail enhancement base you choose, if applied correctly by an experienced technician, both Clear Acrylic and Bio Gel nail enhancement bases should leave you with the same result: long, healthy, and beautiful nails.

  • The answer is simple and straightforward – yes. The product on the market currently referred to as Dip Powder is Acrylic Powder in a fine grain formulation that requires resin, a cosmetic grade glue ingredient. It could be used with monomer liquid to mold onto your natural nails / nail extensions or as a dipping powder to provide a gel polish-like service. It goes on beautifully smooth and is best used for nail art or as an alternative to gel polish.

  • Ombré refers to a gradual transition between hues of colour – from light to dark or vice versa. When it comes to nails, it is a specific style of nail design combining various coloured acrylic to create sunset explosions and monochromatic fades. At Ryna’s Nails, our skilled and talented technicians will carefully blend your desired colours to create a seamless transitional fade.

  • Care must be taken to maintain the integrity of your nails. To properly remove gel polish, you need to break the bond between the gel and your actual nail. In order to do so, very gently, buff the nail to break the gel’s seal. Next, soak the nail beds in acetone (a nail varnish remover) and gently push the gel polish off, using a cuticle stick. One of the most common habits and mistakes Clients make is peeling off the gel polish or not giving the gel enough time to dissolve, and they end up pulling the polish off, which ends up damaging and thinning out your natural nails.

  • All nail enhancements described above include products that have been approved and formulated specifically for application to the natural nail. Nail enhancements, when applied and maintained correctly, are completely safe and non-damaging. It is when the product is improperly applied, cared for, or removed, that it can weaken the nails and cause nail damage.

  • Because the gel polish is cured under a lamp that emits UV light, here at Ryna’s Nails, we recommend Clients to protect the skin on your hands by applying SPF to avoid any UV damage and accelerated aging. If this is a concern for you, we recommend applying sunscreen 20 minutes prior to your service. Book today at our Nail Salon.

  • This will depend on how quickly your natural nails grow and how you use your hands – for some it may be two weeks and others four weeks. At Ryna’s Nails, we recommend coming in for a refill every 2-3 weeks. Check out our nail salon.

  • Nail art is a creative design application on your natural nails and/or nail extensions. The nail art trend is ever-so evolving and it includes techniques include: marbling, gem and stone placements, line work, hand drawn art, and more. Check out our nail salon.

  • Everyone has a different pain threshold, so what might be a lot of pain for one isn’t necessarily a lot for another. Usually, the first time is the worst but our bodies, as it does with everything else, get used to it, and thus the pain becomes more bearable moving forward.

There are some remedies and options that you can use to reduce the pain and irritation that waxing might cause. Our team of professionals is happy to help you find out more about this and guide you in the best direction.
